(HONG KONG, 30th August 2022) Ocean Park Conversation Foundation Hong Kong (OPCFHK) officially announced the establishment of the Alumni Association of Conservation Youth Leader today, continuing to deliver the goals and messages of the “Conservation Education Experience Program for Youth” to more teachers and students. The Alumni association encourages graduates to pass on the knowledge and message of conservation they have learned to their successors. The “Conservation Education Experience Program for Youth” is one of the conservation projects sponsored by The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust, for 5 years starting from 2021. The project has funded 300 students from Primary 4 to 6, to participate in various conservation activities, including attending ecological talks, and visiting animal ambassadors at Ocean Park. Students also set up a "Conservation Zone" at schools to share messages of environmental conservation with other students and the public.
The Conservation Foundation also announced the appointment of Ms. Chan Hoi-wan, Director of Trustee of The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust, as Conservation Advocate today, under the “Climate Change Advocacy Programme”, which promotes the message of environmental protection to cope with the imminent problem of climate change. Ms. Chan will act as the role model to raise public awareness for climate change and conservation issues through different channels, including participating in short videos, sharing the message of conservation on her social media accounts, and visiting endangered species. Through these two major conservation projects, OPCFHK hopes to inspire students, teachers and the community to join hands and contribute to environmental conservation and protection by changing their own lifestyles.
At the Alumni Association of Conservation Youth Leader Inauguration and Conservation Advocate Appointment Ceremony, Ms. Judy Chen, Foundation Chair of OPCFHK said, “We are grateful for the support of The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust and are honored to have Ms. Chan as our Conservation Advocate. We hope that through the ‘Conservation Education Experience Program for Youth’, we can further promote conservation education to primary and secondary school students in more districts and cultivate their interest and passion for environmental conservation at an early age. At the same time, we hope that the Alumni Association will remember the mission of the Conservation Youth Leader and continue to promote the knowledge of ecological conservation in schools and the community. We hope that they pass on their experience and achievements to future Conservation Youth Leaders, so that they can learn to cherish living things and the natural environment.”
After receiving the certificate, Ms. Chan Hoi-wan, the Conservation Advocate, said, “I am honored to be the Conservation Advocate of OPCFHK. This role gives me an additional mission to promote conservation and environmental protection through my daily routine, and raise public awareness towards conservation issues and the worsening problem of climate change. Through the Climate Change Advocacy Programme, I hope to educate the next generation to cherish the earth's resources, reduce pollution and combat climate change together. Although it might be a difficult mission, I believe that if we take one small step and start from our daily life, we can make a big difference.”
At the Inauguration Ceremony, OPCFHK invited teachers and members of Conservation Youth Leaders from Kwong Ming School and Yuen Long Public Middle School Alumni Association Primary School to share with the audience their achievements in the past year. The members of Conservation Youth Leaders expressed that the project provided them with the valuable opportunity to participate in different kinds of lectures and interact with various animals to learn more about conservation, while also fostering friendships and creating beautiful memories.
