"Raw 300" Fundraising Programme

168 Hours of Raw - Across 300 Kilometers

As times change, every challenge brings new learning opportunities. The fast pace of life makes us accustomed to ignoring the people and things around us. Even if the beauty is close at hand, it is forgotten because of the busy life. In this world where the climate is constantly changing, the future has become difficult to estimate. To retain the beauty around us, we must know how to appreciate, cherish, and protect the place where we live together.

Today, Paul Cheung, a committed supporter of Ocean Park Conservation Foundation, Hong Kong (OPCFHK) and a professional climbing instructor, along with his team, has launched an initiative: to complete a 300-kilometer trek around Hong Kong within 168 hours. This endeavor seeks to inspire the public to value and protect the natural landscapes and resources of Hong Kong while promoting environmental conservation through reduced carbon footprints. Mr. Paul Cheung hopes to infect people and things nearby and encourage everyone to bravely pursue their dreams by challenging the limit with limited resources, in order to show a brand new self.

We invite everyone to embrace this challenge, as we collaboratively strategize, overcome difficulties, and achieve our goals. We also call upon the community to contribute to the OPCFHK’s vital work in wildlife conservation across Asia.

Purpose of the Program

We live on the same island, and Paul hopes everyone can cherish and protect this island. Life has no limits, we encourage more people to choose and pursue their dreams. Self-challenge is not a competition and there is no distinction between high and low. Let us appreciate the beauty of nature again, and hope that the public will pay more attention to the local ecology and awaken the original intention of conservation through appreciation.

Introduction of Challenger

Paul Cheung is a mountain craft coach who loves hiking. The mountains give him the most unrestrained and comfortable place where he can find himself. He is the first Hong Kong climber to climb two 8,000-meter peaks within two days, including Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse. In 2020, he climbed the 100 highest mountains in Hong Kong within 13 days. He also climbed Devil's Mountain, Kowloon Peak and Lion Rock in one day in a rope solo format, and made a documentary about the process as "Project Alone".

Venue and Method of Challenge

The location of this challenge is Hong Kong. We hope that the public will figure out that there are still many beautiful scenery and  resources in our homeland. Based on the route of this challenge, Paul will run around on Hong Kong Island, ride around the Lantau Isand by kayak and ride around in Kowloon and the New Territories. Paul's team will record and share with the public, therefore the public will cherish this land more and enjoy all the beauty of nature together.

Meaning to Challenegers

The purpose of this personal challenge is not to achieve the fastest, highest or strongest performance in the challenge. The significance lies in how our team designed this challenge plan. From conception, inspection, training, preparation, setting up multiple backup plans, facing and overcoming difficulties, each member also achieved self-transcendence together and grew and gained in the process. Every challenge is an opportunity to explore our own potential and allowing us to learn to persevere and adjust our mindset when facing difficulties. At a result, we will ultimately meet a better us. Everyone in society faces different situations and has different difficulties to overcome. One of the significances of this personal challenge is how our team uses limited resources to achieve goals. This is already a very meaningful personal challenge.

Select OPCFHK

Paul hopes to carry out conservation work and expose more students to the importance of caring for nature through a place or organization. Ocean Park Conservation Foundation, Hong Kong (OPCFHK) is an organization that fits their philosophy.

Ocean Park Hong Kong holds significant memories for many of us, and OPCFHK has been instrumental in scientific research, education, and the conservation of wildlife and marine environments. Following a visit to OPCFHK’s projects, Paul and his team have developed a deeper appreciation for the necessity of preserving marine life and biodiversity, leading them to select OPCFHK as the beneficiary of this fundraising effort.
