Aquatic Mammal

Chinese White Dolphins (Sousa chinensis) and Finless Porpoises (Neophocaena phocaenoides)
Diurnal Pattern of Habitat Use vs. Anthropogenic Noise in Core Areas of Chinese White Dolphins and Finless Porpoises in Hong Kong Waters

In this webinar, Dr. Derek Ho Yuen-wa from Cetacea Research Institute shares his research on his investigation on how spatial and temporal variation of marine soundscapes affects the habitat use of Chinese white dolphins and finless porpoises in Hong Kong waters.

Terrestrial Mammal

Saola (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis)
A Guardian for the Annamites: Saving the Enigmatic Saola from Extinction
In this webinar, Dr. Lorraine Scotson, CEO of the Saola Foundation, shares the milestones her and her research team in Laos have achieved in pushing saola conservation forward. The project has utilised innovative methods, such assembling a joint international/national team of wildlife trackers, aided by trained dogs and handlers to seek out spoor and signs of the saola and other ungulates in the wild as well as collect dung samples for DNA testing to search for this elusive species.

Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca)
Synergy between Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development
In this webinar, Dr. Binbin Li, Associate Professor of Environmental Science at Duke Kunshan University, shares the extensive work her and her research team in China have achieved in wild giant panda conservation. Her research highlights the impacts of livestock grazing on giant panda habitat, and also emphasises the importance of balancing local people's livelihood with conservation policies. For locals who depend on livestock grazing, her research builds the foundation to developing more sustainable practices and formulating better grazing management strategies.

Reptile

Sea Turtle
Investigating the Demand of Technology and Signal for Rescuing Sea Turtle

In this webinar, Dr. Chen Min shares her work on the conservation of sea turtle in the Coastline of China. The project has helped improve the understanding on sea turtle distribution, migration, and investigate the by catching of sea turtles. The project also developed and standardised a sea turtle rescue protocol and build up the relevant supporting network.

Northern River Terrapin (Batagur baska)
Recovering India’s Most Endangered Northern River Terrapin in the Sundarbans

In this webinar, Dr. Shailendra Singh from Turtle Survival Alliance (India) shares his work on the conservation of the Critically Endangered Northern River Terrapin and the work he has done to protect and reintroduce this species back to its historical range through post-release tracking and community education.

Wattle-necked Softshell Turtle (Palea steindachneri)
Assessing the Genetic Diveristy and Ecological Role of the Endangered Wattle-necked Softshell Turtle

In this webinar, Professor Jonathan Fong from Lingnan University shares his work in increasing our understanding of the origins of Wattle-necked Softshell Turtle populations in Hong Kong through genetic analysis, and to investigate their ecological role in freshwater ecosystems through stable isotype analysis. His work on stable isotopes could help trace the geographic origins of unknown individuals to combat poaching of this endangered species.
