A Promising Result for Continued Learning
The team identified 41 individual Bryde’s whales as of March 2020. Photos taken in 2018/19 were used to compare characteristics of each whale (fin shape and scars) to establish a database of individual whales. As analysis on the photos is still ongoing, it is expected that more individuals will be identified. The team also recorded an encouraging finding, when two pairs of mother and calf groups were recognised on Xieyang Island in January 2020. This project is expected to conclude in June 2020 with a final report, after the ongoing oceanographic data research that facilitates the estimation of the whales’ optimal habitat completes.

啟迪未來科研的正面成果
截至二零二零年三月，研究團隊已成功辨認出布 氏鯨種群內的四十一條個體，並正分析二零一八至 二零一九年度拍攝的相片，對比鯨魚的魚鰭形狀 和疤痕，建立布氏鯨個體識別數據庫。有關分析工 作目前仍在進行中，研究團隊預期之後將會分辨到 更多布氏鯨個體。此外，研究團隊還在二零二零年 一月錄得一項令人振奮的發現，就是於斜陽島海域 記錄到兩對布氏鯨母子出沒。目前研究團隊正持續 進行海洋學數據調查工作，用以推測布氏鯨的理想 棲息地，並預期是次研究將於二零二零年六月結束 並提交結題報告。

在鯨豚保育工作上，保育基金不單全力撥款資助研究，更非常關注亞 洲鄰近地區的鯨豚保育。作為「亞洲海洋哺乳動物擱淺組織網」的創 始及委員會成員之一，保育基金全力協助第三屆亞洲海洋哺乳動物擱 淺組織網研討會暨工作坊於二零一九年在台灣圓滿舉行。
Besides funding, OPCFHK plays an active role as one of the committee members and founding members of the Asia Marine Mammal Stranding Network (AMMSN). Its third symposium and workshop were held in September 2019 in Taiwan.
