Response from Participating Students:
Created to inspire the next generation of ecologists, the ECF Ecology and Conservation 101: Grooming the Next Great Ecologist programme led participating school students through lectures, guided tours and field projects that studied the ecology and biodiversity of Lantau Island. It was a valuable experience in basic field research, guided by experienced local ecologists. This year-long educational project was launched by OPCFHK with funding support from the Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF).

100 participating students from 10 secondary schools joined the 2018/19 programme. They were divided into 20 groups to conduct their own research projects. Upon completion, participants presented their results in the form of a poster that were submitted for a poster competition. Respected local ecologists and conservationists were invited as judges while the public participated in online voting.
On 28 and 29 September 2019, an exhibition, Lantau Biodiversity Showcase, was held at D•Park that featured all 20 posters. Educational booths by other environmental protection partners like World Wide Fund for Nature Hong Kong (WWF-Hong Kong) and Yi O Farm were also set up at the event, which attracted over 4,300 visitors.
